Build A Website for Less Than $12?

Do you want to build a website for your next project and would like to do it on shoe string budget? Well, this is a good news for you as I would like to show you how I was able to build my website without breaking the bank.

Build a website

Due to current economic situation of the country and as a Nigerian, I wasn’t willing to spend too much because the exchange rate of our local currency to the green back (dollars) would be too high for me when all indices are factored in. So, I opted for the cheapest means that will get the job done and help me create my website.

I wanted to build a website or blog in the news/entertainment niche and when I thought about the cost, it would be on the high side based on current economic indices of Nigeria.

Normally, we would need a domain name (URL) and hosting (web space) for my next project. A standard domain name should cost me $12 at most. A hosting or web space should cost me anywhere from $50 and above per year. If you are an American, you wouldn’t see this as a lot of money but being a Nigerian that I am, being prudent was the smartest way to handle this situation. Just because the country isn’t looking good isn’t a reason to discourage me from getting the job done.

The search begun.

I started by searching for where to acquire a domain name for less than $1. Crazy right? I wasn’t being greedy but just being frugal and boy, did I find what I wanted? Sure I did.

build a website or blog

The domain name (URL) is the first thing that needs to be done or acquired and my searches did yield result. I found a place at 1and1 which allowed me to buy a domain name for as little as $0.99 and when you add tax, you have $1.17.

Isn’t that fair enough? I bet it is.

I have to add that this is for first time customers or first year users.

Head over to 1and1. Their page look like this.

1and1

So let’s begin by pseudo registering our first domain name.

In the search bar above where you see check button in yellow, type a domain name that you will like to register. If the domain name is available, proceed to the next stage.

For instance, if we were to register InvestCapitals.com, I would proceed as shown below.

dom

The domain name is available. Therefore hit “Select” button for .com. In the next page, do not click on anything aside “Continue to Cart”

dom2

Hit continue in next page as well. Do not add any product to cart.

dom3

The next page should be like this

build a websiteYou can see “Creat new account” button above, right? Click on it!

When you click on it, you will be taken to the “Billing” page as shown below. Select ‘Personal” and fill the form appropriately

dom5

In the next page, you should make payment, which should run smoothly. Your card will be charged $1.17 for this process.

The first phase has been accomplished and now the second phase will begin. Relax and I will make your ride enjoyable. 🙂

Okay let us begin with getting a hosting account at www.NameCheap.com where you can get a domain name hosted for just $9.88. Amazing right? Sure it is! Now all we do is go here, where we shall be taken to Name Cheap site which looks like the image below.

website hosting

Look at the image above and you will on the tap where we have Domains, Hosting, Apps and so on.

Hover your mouse over Hosting and select “Shared Hosting” and this will take you to the next page that looks like the image below.

shared-hosting

Select “Value” in the far left corner and proceed to the next page as shown below.

host2

Select “Use a domain I own from another registrar” which is the first option from the bottom and you will be taken to the next page. In order to make sure the process run smoothly to the next stage, I include a domain name I had registered as you can see in the image below.

host3

And then I hit the “Use this Domain” in order to make the “Continue” button, which is the faded red button on the right, to come alive. When that happened, I clicked on “Continue” so as to complete the process.

host4

On the top right corner of you screen you will see “Confirm Order”. Hit the button and complete the process.

Namecheap and 1an1 will send you an email notification after the regstration at both platform to confirm your order.  They will also send you your account details such as username and password.

Since Namecheap is the hosting company, they will send you your nameserver, username and password to your email address. All you have to do is log into your domain name registrar and change the nameserver to what Namecheap sent. In order to build a website for your next project, send me a message if you need any help or assistance.

This will enable you to build a website or blog of your choice. However, that is if you know how to do it yourself. If you do not know how to build a website all by yourself, kindly reach out to me and I will explain it to you.

Now you have successfully registered a domain name and hosted it for less than $12. Amazing!

Let us do a little bit of math here to see if we exceeded $12.

Domain name cost is $1.17

Hosting cost is $9.88

When we add them together, we have $11.05.

Cool! Thank you for reading this blog post and if you have any question, please ask below and I will do my best to reply.

How to Make Extra Money as a Private Tutor

Knowing how to make extra money is very important in today’s world. Sometimes people announce to the world that there is no money, the country is hard, there are no jobs, people are being sacked from their jobs and in some cases, you aren’t being paid enough at your current place of work.

How to make extra moneyIf this sound like you, I would like to show you how to make extra money helping people solve their intellectual problem and with extra creativity, you can expand on this.

I am strong believer that if you need money, help someone solve his/her problem and you shall have whatever you desire. It is a non disputable universal fact.

Look around you and what you will see is that everything within and outside your reach serve a specific purpose to man and they solve a problem.

You are reading this content right now with aid of a device: maybe a phone, tablet or a PC, which generally help you get informed or entertained as the case might be. The chair in your sitting room serves the purpose of making you relaxed and comfortable at home. You take a vehicle that convey you when you need to visit next town, state or country.

Basically, the above mentioned items solve specific problems. How does this connect with you?

Solving problems is one of the smartest ways to get money in your pocket and by extension, offering a service that solve problems that needs solutions is a smart way to get started.

How should you get started? Education is the answer!

Education is a vital factor of human existence, development, evolution and projection. This explains why schools has never ran out of clients since it was established.

Wouldn’t it be wise to start a business where you will never run out of clients? Certainly!

You can build a solid business teaching people what you know, be it catering, carpentry, plumbing, academic and so on. But for the sake of this post, we shall be discussing from the angle of an academia.

Are you good in mathematics, physics, English, biology and chemistry? What subject do you have a flair for? Many parents are currently looking for someone who can tutor their ward on mental draining subjects such as mathematics and English and they are willing to pay good money for it.

So how do you start, find these clients and make the kind of money that you want?

Here is what you need to get started.

  • Your brain
  • Hand
  • White board and marker
  • Marketing
  • Website

With above listed requirements, you can establish a solid private home tutor business that can make you money every month.

You have your hand and brain already and that comes at no cost to you.

If you wish to make good impression of yourself, you should get a website that reflect your qualities and portray you as a professional. Besides, having your own website shows prospective clients that you are a computer literate that can greatly impact their kids’ IT skills, specifically research skills and other areas that warrants using the internet. It can also enable clients (or parents) glance through your profile to see what you have to offer them.

imaging having a custom email such as tutor@yemi.com?

Side Note: You can also teach adults who wish to learn how to effectively use the internet and also make money from them.

Consult me to build your website if you need a solid online representation of your qualities and qualifications.

After your website has been built, you have to put contents that explain what you do. Your website shouldn’t be more than 3 pages wide. The pages should include Home, About Us and Contact page.

That said, your next job is getting clients by marketing your business to people who might need your service.

I will advocate 5 ways to get clients one of them is so powerful that you might get more clients than you can handle.

  1.  Flyers
  2. Word of Mouth
  3. Place ads online (via facebook)
  4. Business card(s)
  5. Tshirt

Flyers: With less than $30 (or less than N10,000), you can get quite a good number of flyers done for you. Now, what you should note is that your flyers should have a well crafted captivating bold headline that can pull attention of your readers. Just below the headline should be your description where you state what you do for your clients and the benefit of having your service offered. You can also have your stickers on/in vehicles.

Business  Card: Get a business card done for you. It wouldn’t cost you much to get 500 pcs of a professionally done business card.

Word of Mouth: Before the advent of the internet, the most powerful tool of advertising is the mouth. In some ancient villages, news were disperse by town criers when there is an emergency information for the people. Same is still applicable till this day.

Print Tshirts: Get the word out there. Let your outing be woven with marketing intents. With white Tshirts and some awesomely customized words on it, people will take note of your existence and contact you.

Place Ads Online: If you need a quick action that will generate quick results, you should consider the option of placing ads on facebook. It is not as hard you think and neither is it as expensive as you imagined. $20-30 can easily get you quite a good number of clients within a few hours. I would even advice that you do this in conjunction with your website. Trust me, you will get phone calls ringing through the roof.

You have to make sure that your facebook ads are highly targeted around your location for proximity and easy reach. This, you are easily assessed by your clients.

Scaling Up: Due to the powerful effectiveness of using online paid ads to run your business, it is very possible to get more clients than you can ever imagined INSTANTLY. This could also mean getting more than you can handle.

So what will you do when you get more clients than you can handle? You shouldn’t quit but create a leverage.

Here is how to do it. Get the clients as much as they come, partner with other intelligent folks who might be interested tutors and then take some cut from their payments at an agreed percentage. This should help you create a passive income every month without worry about headaches that comes with tutoring.

However, you should make sure that your clients are getting what they paid for by monitoring what the tutors are doing. Ensure that complaints are attended to promptly because your clients are the reason you get food to eat.

With consistency and perseverance, you can easily turn this into a thriving business that spits money into your bank account at will and even build your own school if you desire.

Before you would start building your website, you have to get some things right that will help to propel your business and brand image positively of the next few years of existence.

According to Forbes, there are 7 website design mistakes that small businesses make

1. Putting urgency over understanding your target market.

Instead of focusing on getting your website done as soon as possible, you must first research your target audience in your specific market. Then, design your website around your research.

For instance, if your target market is older, perhaps the font size should be larger. Or if your product is geared towards a younger demographic, then you need to think about catering your site to be smartphone compatible.

You’re going to have to determine where should your users go once they get to your site? That question is easily answered if you know your market.

2. Design is too busy or flashy.

My company, Ciplex, is a web design and development company, and we know that in order to be successful on the Internet you need to focus on marketing your website — not a flashy design. Your design should not just be focused on bringing users there, but also getting them to the right place once they reach your homepage.

Plus, flashy websites don’t look good on mobile phones or tablets, and a large majority of Internet users now visit websites from these wireless devices.

Remember: when a visitor comes to your website, they probably already know what they want out of it. If within three seconds they can’t figure out what to do next, you might need to go back to the drawing board.

3. No clear call to action.

What do you want users to do once they’ve found your website? Do you want them to buy your product, contact you, or subscribe to your business e-newsletter? You need to tell visitors what the next step is and when (ideally, now!). Your content should answer the question, “What’s in it for me?” and then the call to action tells them what to do next.

4. Paying too little or too much.

You don’t know how many times people come to my company after they’ve hired a cheap designer, let them make business decisions that are poor, and ended up with a horrible product. At the same time, companies get distracted by expensive agencies that work with big brands, and don’t realize these agencies might not be able to help a small business that’s ROI focused. Simply put: don’t blow your budget on your website, but do your research to ensure you’re receiving a quality product.

5. Stale, out-of-date content.

Customers expect your website to contain the latest information about your products, services, and company. When it doesn’t have this, they may assume you’re not in business any longer, or simply aren’t innovative and ahead of the competition. Your content must address the needs of your customers (or potential customers) and be updated as things change. If you have a blog, updating it at least once a week — if not more — can help you drive visitors to your website and keep search engines happy.

Additionally, avoid putting links to your Facebook or Twitter pages if you only have a small following. People may think your business is too small and end up not hiring you.

6. Trying to target everyone.

This goes back to knowing your target market; your website will be a mess if you try to accommodate every kind of visitor you might end up getting. It’s best to figure out your most frequent users and focus on creating the best possible experience for them. If you try to please the masses you’ll likely end up not pleasing anyone.

7. Taking the DIY route.

Your website is often your customers’ first experience with your brand. If you don’t have design experience, do you really think you can do it justice? Remember first impressions are everything. Don’t allow your customer to make assumptions about your business because of a poorly designed website.

How To Get Website Design For Free?
